Tropea

Being on holiday in Capo Vaticano also means see Tropea. Tropea is located 8 km from the Village and is the most beautiful and famous in our area, place of ancient legends and ancient history.
On the sea, perched on the rock, is particularly charming with its old town full of shops where there are so many strands of red onions and chillies.  
A picturesque tangle of narrow streets leads to an attractive terrace overlooking a crystal clear sea and on a long beach that reaches up to a huge calcareous rock on which stands the Sanctuary of the High Middle Ages S. Maria Island. It is nice to go around in Tropea strolling among many people maybe looking for some souvenirs. Important to see are various churches including the Cathedral Norman.




Capo Vaticano

Our stretch of coastline takes its name from the promontory of Capo Vaticano. Set in a landscape of exceptional beauty, 4 km (by car) from the Village, the high granite spur, jagged, with a quadrangular base, which, starting from the Apennines Calabrian juts out over the Tyrrhenian Sea and reaches a maximum height of 124 meters, is geographically known as the promontory of Capo Vaticano.
It divides the gulf of Santa Eufemia and Gioia Tauro and is positioned in front of the spectacular Aeolian Islands. On this promontory lies the City of Ricadi. In ancient times the "Capo" was a sacred place known throughout Magna Grecia, because there the priests and soothsayers scrutinizing the future. Over the centuries the ancient civilizations there they left their artistic, cultural and scientific.
The numerous archaeological remains found in excavations speak of many peoples, Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines and Normans, Saracens traveling along the coast, destroying what remained, of the Angevins and Aragonese and finally to the French. Phoenicians, Carthaginians and Greeks sold their products to the local population on the beaches of Santa Maria, Torre Ruffa and Grotticelle.


 

 Pizzo Calabro

It is located about 40 Km from the Village, is a fishing and tourist town in the province of Vibo Valentia, perched on the slope of a picturesque promontory that rises above the Tyrrhenian Sea, in the middle of the Gulf of Santa Eufemia. Pizzo was born on the ruins of Napitia, a colony of Focesi, only to be later destroyed by an attack of the Saracens and rebuilt by survivors. In the Middle Ages it became a thriving market town with attractive residences. In addition to the tasting of the famous ice cream that is produced here, the “Tartufo di Pizzo”, sitting at the tables of the many bars in the beautiful square, you can visit the famous castle where Gioacchino Murat was executed, the Church of San Giorgio which contains the remains and the peculiar and bizarre Church of Piedigrotta entirely excavated in the tuff and located less than a kilometer from the country.


 

Reggio Calabria and Bronzi di Riace

The city of Reggio Calabria, nestled between the foothills of the Aspromonte and the Tyrrhenian Sea,  is completely surrounded by the spectacular scenery of the Straits of Messina and surrounded by lush vegetation, characterized by lush tropical plants of tall trees. They are of great beauty the city's waterfront, recently rebuilt and known as the "most beautiful kilometer in Italy" and the historic center full of shops and beautiful buildings. At the National Archaeological Museum, where there are ancient relics of the prehistoric, Roman and Greek, is now again possible to admire the beautiful and majestic Bronze Statues “Bronzi di Riace”


 

Locri and Gerace

Locri Epizefiri was one of the most powerful and richest cities of Magna Grecia. Today, in the province of Reggio Calabria, Locri, is a large archaeological park where they are still active excavations to unearth the ancient remains of Magna Grecia.  A lot remains to be seen at the Antiquarium and the Museum of Antiquities. Not far from Locri Gerace is that it was founded in the ninth century by refugees from Locri in search of escape from Saracen raids. Gerace, still retains all its entire medieval and is the city of Calabria with the largest number of works of art officially defined national interest. The historic center is particularly charming with its roads and hiking trails with stairs and a rich succession of arches, palaces, churches of Byzantine origin and portals . The splendid panorama from the top of the walls and of particular interest is the beautiful castle built on the highest part of the city and The Church of San Francesco dating back to the thirteenth century.


 

Taormina

It is one of the most important international tourist centers of Sicily. The mild climate, its position absolutely overview, its monuments and lush vegetation, have made Taormina exclusive tourist resort appreciated all over the world. The city is situated on a terrace overlooking the sea and Etna and its ancient greek-roman theater in high opens in a hug to the Ionian Sea and the scenic green of citrus plantations. Location loved so much in the past as in the present by many celebrities from the worlds of culture, politics and entertainment, Taormina city exotic and special, full of many beautiful hotels of international repute is considered one of the preferred tourist destinations in Italy.


 

Isole Eolie

When the sky is clear in front of our Village you can admire the most part the archipelago of the Aeolian Islands.
The excursion to the Aeolian Islands is carried by sea, by motorboat, from morning to evening.  The trip takes about two hours from Tropea or from Capo Vaticano. The tour includes a stop at Island Vulcano where you can swim in the sea and in the sulphurous mud. Then you get to Lipari where the stop includes a visit to the Aeolian Museum and a round to go shopping. Finally you get to Stromboli and after the circumnavigation of the island to see the famous “Sciara di fuoco” descend to earth to take a bath or alternatively visit the country.
